About Common App
50 years ago, a small group of colleges and universities got together to reimagine the college application process. The goal was to leverage the technology at the time — the photocopier — to simplify the application process.
Fifty years later, Common App® is a non-profit membership organization representing more than 1,100 diverse institutions of higher education. We connect applicants and those who support them to a wide array of public and private colleges and universities across all 50 U.S. states and 18 countries.
Each year, more than one million students — a third of whom are first-generation — apply to college, research financial aid and scholarships, and connect to college counseling resources through Common App. Our mission is focused on pursuing access, equity, and integrity in the college admissions process.
About Common Black College Application
Since the founding of the Common Black College Application (CBCA) in September of 1998, the company has helped to break the cycle of poverty in the lives of hundreds of thousands of students from around the world. To date, over 350,000 students have completed the CBCA. Approximately 97% of those have been accepted to at least one CBCA Member Institution, and over 33% have received a scholarship that ranges from tens of thousands to millions of dollars. In addition, the CBCA serves as an irreplaceable resource to Historically Black Colleges and Universities by aiding them in the achievement of their enrollment objectives.
