- Utilize your resources and support system
Whether that be a family member, high school counselor, or myself, it is important to ask for help from those who might have already been in the same shoes as you.
- Be flexible
Everything may not go according to plan. There might be some rejection along the way, but rejection is redirection and there are plenty of opportunities waiting for you so take advantage.
- Doing the bare minimum = mediocre results
In order for the best results, you must show up for yourself and put the work in.
- Prioritize your mental health and self care
Make sure to take breaks and relax in a way that best works for you. Balance is key and you do not want to overwhelm yourself with too many applications at one time.
- Self advocacy!
Take the initiative to get your work done!
- Recycle essays
A lot of scholarship prompts are the same so make sure to save your essays to google docs. You will more than likely be able to use them on multiple scholarships.
- Get your letters of recommendations ahead of time
This goes for college apps as well. Do not let your recommenders know at the last minute about needing a letter. Give them plenty of time so they are not forced to work against the deadline.
- Apply Apply Apply!!
Scholarship dollars add up, so do not dismiss or count the lower scholarship amounts out.
- Have a theme
Cratft your essays with a purpose, be your authenic self so you can stand out, own the outcome.
